MINUTES FROM TOWN HALL & ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
January 24th, 2008, 7-9pm, Angus Glen Golf Course
Guests: Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Councillor Dan Horchik, Patrick O’Hanlon

Town Hall
- Meeting called to order
- Welcome by Robert Morand, President of AGRA
- Introduction of AGRA Board of Directors
- Dan Horchik, Councillor Ward 6
- Widening of Major Mackenzie Drive
- The Region has advised the town that the widening will be completed by December 2008 from Woodbine to Kennedy.
- There will be a sidewalk on the north side.
- There will be a multi-use path on the south side.
- Angus Glen School Site
- The site is owned by the School Board.
- They have advised that there are not enough children in the catchment area at this time to build the school.
- They are monitoring the situation.
- If York Downs G.C. proceeds to develop some or all of its land for residential purposes the Board would consider exchanging the site in Angus Glen for a site on the York Downs land.
- Angus Glen Community Park
- Is the site behind the Angus Glen C.C.
- There will be a full size lit soccer field – to start construction in the spring 2008, ready for play in the spring 2009.
- There was a community meeting last fall to discuss what to do with the rest of the park
- The landscape architect hired by the Town will complete the detailed design this year and there will be another community meeting held to review the detailed design.
- Subject to budget approval, construction to start spring 2009.
- Shoppes at Angus Glen
- The site plan for the Shoppes has not been approved yet
- Another meeting will be held with residents to review the plan
- East Village – West Village Bridge
- The Town has stated that the bridge at the end of Angus Glen Blvd must be built at the same time as Phase 1 of the West Village and Kylemore has committed to this
- Widening of 16th Avenue
- An environmental assessment has started on this
- They are looking at building it to 6 lanes, with the 2 new lanes being HOV lanes
- One public meeting has already been held, another will be held
- Widening of Major Mackenzie Drive
- Patrick O’Hanlon, Kylemore Communities
- Shoppes at Angus Glen – we’ve had one public meeting, we will hold another as Dan stated
- West Village – we have started on some basements but we are late in general
- Water – the Town was great in dealing with the water issue over Thanksgiving
- Construction – we are committed to keeping the West Village as clean as possible during construction of all phases
- School site – there just will never be enough kids to warrant a school in Angus Glen, York Downs would have to develop first. We are pushing the board to sell it back to us but they are not budging.

- Was pleased the way everyone worked together on the water issue
- Last year, Markham had the lowest tax increase of all urban municipalities in York Region, and one of the lowest in the GTA

Q: Does the Town have an Environmental Action office? A: Mayor: Yes, we do it is called Markham Environment & Conservation Office. They work on various environmental initiatives within the Town – pesticide by-law, peaksaver program etc.
Q: Will the fields being built at the new sports high school be available to the public? A: Dan: Yes, there will be 2 artificial turf fields and one natural; they will be available to the public during off hours.
Q: The intersection at Warden and 16th Avenue is extremely busy and left hand turns are dangerous. Are there any plans to make this intersection safer? A: Dan: There are no plans at this time, I will take this back to staff and discuss it with them.
Q: Will there be playgrounds in the West Village? A: Patrick: Yes there will be 2 on Angus Glen Blvd and another in the north section. The main part of the neighbourhood will also include a pond. Community meetings will be held to get resident input on the parks.
